This article explains how to get the Google authorship working for you in 15 minutes.

You can use this method on your own blog as well as on other blogs ! You have to put the author link “manually” on each article you write. This is a multi author solution.

Sign up for Google+ and create your Google+ profile.

Make sure you have a clear profile photo of your face.

Create an author link for your articles :

  • Syntax : <a href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>by YourName</a>
  • Insert your Google+ profile URL
  • Your Google+ link must contain the ?rel=author parameter !
  • Example : <a href=”https://plus.google.com/+MarcOscarSchwager?rel=author”>by Marc Oscar Schwager</a>

Add the URL of your blog to your Google + profile :

  • Go to Contributor To section
  • In the dialog window : go to the “Contributer to” area, click “Add custom link”, enter your blog’s URL
  • In order to activate the authorship mechanism, the permission has to be set on “Public”
  • Click “Save”

To see what author data Google can extract from your article(s), use
the structured data testing tool.

The automated author link method

This method works only for your own blog. No matter how many articles you publish on your blog, you only need to do the following process once. This is a multi author solution.

Sign up for Google+ and create your Google+ profile.

Make sure you have a clear profile photo of your face.

Add the URL from your Google+ profile to your blog :

  • Your Google+ URL can look like : https://plus.google.com/+MarcOscarSchwager
  • Go to your user profile on the blog
  • look for “Contact Info” or similar stuff, put your Google+ URL
  • If you can not found an input box, where you can enter your Google+ URL, use a plugin like WordPress SEO by Yoast

Add the URL of your blog to your Google + profile :

  • Go to Contributor To section
  • In the dialog window : go to the “Contributer to” area, click “Add custom link”, enter your blog’s URL
  • In order to activate the authorship mechanism, the permission has to be set on “Public”
  • Click “Save”
